Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Nicely paced race @stevieg Looks a nice event with good support, thats why I like the Newport Pagnell 5k - lots of people cheering you on too!

7 & 5 with Ollie on Monday, buses were shot yesterday so had to train at home, decided to do the 10k tempo again.

One of those you realise after half a mile that it was the wrong choice, but you need to stick it out. Not a proper tempo as I went a bit too fast, definitely wouldn't be able to another 15% comfortably! So 37.50 on a undulating town route with no warm up was quite pleasing. Hard though.

5.5 this morning, usual jog round Islington from work.

I did a seniors circuit class on Monday but got enough flak from my eldest daughter about that as she lifts 100kg+ and I was doing 5kgs so don't need comments.

I have probably increased my 20 minute power by a 100 watts over the years. Starting at about 265w and peaking at 365w. So plenty of scope to increase.

@Foppotee doing a 3,000m race around here next month, not sure if the course will be the same. Looked brutal!

I sued to double quite a lot, @Muddyfunster. But one key change for the winter-spring coaching was almost all singles (so longer runs on average). Currently is just a bit of what a fancy in nice weather. The midweek races sound good. Where are they?

Tidy tempo on a warm evening, @LBAC Si.

First trot on the school grass track on Wednesday. Usual warm up and down with 3M tempo on the track. Appalling paced, not helped by the heat. But 6:10 average. Worcester half (the hilly one, rather than the flat but twisty run) coming up on Sunday. Annoyingly, seem to have come down with a bit of a head cold, so going to have a rare day off today.

@Sorequads I'm involved in a couple of them - the Hereford Couriers 5k series

entrycentral.com

and the Worcestershire midweek series:

stuweb.co.uk

which is Hagley, Arrow Valley, Droitwich and Clent - all of which I suspect are too far north for you ?

I was thinking about Worcester half for a session in company but turns out it is sold out. Surprised at the prices for that - it feels like since I emerged from semi-retirement, race prices have gone mad. Or maybe my income is not going so far (reader: it's those expensive shoes!). The days are gone of just hopping into a race casually, now I need to save up. The races linked above are very good value by the way !

Just a couple of easy runs to report since my 8m with the club, a 4m and 6m, with approx. 5m easy hoped for at lunch today. A parkrun run and scan looms tomorrow, so I'll make my session work around that instead: 2 x 9 mins at 6.30 ,min/mile, then a 19 min parkrun.

Cheers, @Muddyfunster. The Hereford series is sold out which is a shame - fancied a couple of them.

Agreed re race prices - although it does make the cheaper club organised ones absolute gems to treasure. Talking of which, any Blaisdon 10k action this year, @Forrest Jooligan?

Fell running is the answer to cheap races - £6 for Sunday's 9kish. I don't think I've seen a local one more than this.

I hate expensive races as there are two of us so it makes everything twice the price.

@Foppotee Had a feeling it might not work. Look on youTube if you fancy it. Pretty full on race for the slowest one!

Got chilly again though @Sorequads ;)

Agree prices are silly now @Muddyfunster you do have to shop about

Kicked off the track by a school meeting again, so 12 x 400 off 60 on the tuesday road ciruit. Usual 72 to start, averaged 69 for the rest.

Groundhog day tomorrow - Wrest Pk to train, then bus to Bedford to watch Ollie run a 3000m in the SAL for Bedford.

Then 'relay season' (Round MK, Greensand Ridge & Stevenage) kicks off Sunday, Leg 1 from Bletchley to SW MK. 9.3 miles so a good workout.

Si, I have no idea what I'd be searching for :-) it just says crit race kings cross. Are you running around a crit race course?

Had a headache yesterday, tried to run it off but didn't manage it and just ended up making a bush visit and cutting the session about 10 minutes short. It should have been 2 x 2 minutes and 4 x 45 seconds twice over but I barely got into the second round. Today was 60 minutes with 10 x 1 minute builds with 2 minute floats. I quite enjoy these runs, the averages only come out around 7 minute miles but there's plenty of efforts in the 5-6 minute miling range.

3 hours on the bike with a 30 minute brick run (3 x 5' at threshold) tomorrow, 1:45 min run on Sunday which will be my longest run so far with 6 x 1km at tempo at the back end. Might also squeeze in an easy swim at the lake Sunday morning. Should be a tough weekend then one more week before taper week into a middle distance race.

Hi there - this thread started in 2010 over on RW and started as an improvement thread for myself under Moraghan's coaching, through to more of a general collaboration tool and place to share training and long winded race reports.

Thanks to the fetch community for allowing us to move over, and we'd welcome loads of new contributors adding to the thread, as we were definitely running on empty with a small bunch of posters near the end!
