Even with the full 4% improvement my chance of age group prizes would still depend mostly on a couple of specific people not turning up. But I'm going to spring for a pair of these before my next tarmac parkrun effort in two weeks' time. They can be my birthday/Happy New Age Category present to myself.

Vrap - if the Nike website has your size, then if you buy via topcashback.co.uk then 15% cashback - says offer ends today

Forgot to say, congrats Gobi. You obviously still have it despite advancing years. Don't know if/when I will ever have the chance of a sub-18 5k still less as the first leg of a duathlon!
My new VF (and my wife's) were bought with 20% off direct from Nike (3 items).

Thanks, Gus! The Nike website does have my size in both colours. I've never used topcashback.co.uk, but I'll have a look, that's a decent race entry fee of a cashback.

For the sake of balanced reporting, I think someone on this website of, say, my ability level needs to be able to give their personal perspective on these shoes
It's a lot of money but not a big risk, for I've worn Nike shoes almost exclusively for road running since 2001 and am quite brazen about swanning around in shoes that are far too fast for me.

Liked my first race in the VFs at the Retford HM.
I set out at a silly pace though to stay attached to a group (first 4 miles 5:35-5:45), but once I dropped off the back I managed to keep my head on it and not give up the ghost despite running pretty much solo for just about all of the last 9 miles. Legs felt
Better pacing and think I might have done better but can't sniff at a 90 second PB of 1:17:48 20th overall and 4th old git (v40).

Sorry meant to say legs felt surprisingly decent after a short warm down.
