Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

She was going towards him, then stepped to the side, a bit late, sort of across in front of him, then he turns and really seems to give her a good shove with his hands / arms. Not even just a wee shoulder bump. Crazy. Her head went into road right in front of that bus wheel. Really lucky and thanks to the great reactions of the bus driver. Poor woman.

Quite a clear pic of the runner side on (taken from the bus?)

He's seen the bus. He's quite clearly trying to kill her.

it's not at all clear to me that he has seen the bus and certainly not clear that he is trying to kill her.

What he did was bad but isn't there an angle that says is was something far less than 'attempted murder'? Have you ever been running in a crowded place and just got so fed up of people getting in your way that you just want to shove the next person who is head down in their phone. I'll admit to having felt that even though I've never done it, of course.

It could be a case of a fed up runner snapping and lashing out at just the wrong time.

^^ No I haven't and i've never snapped and that bridge wasn't even crowded.

Guy is a psycho and should be arrested and charged.

Not sure I could work out from the only vid that I've seen that he could tell the bus was coming (it was behind him, after all). The place he is pushing her is definitely away from pavement and towards road. Incredibly dangerous, even if actual murder wasn't his intention.

I have occasionally felt the urge to "hold my line", when running towards someone in the middle of a path, head down on their phone, oblivious to all around them. Or a line of people across a path yacking to each other and equally oblivious. But the worst I have done (in a very Briitish way!) is a loud "Ahem", a slightly too close pass, infringing on their personal space, followed by "Tut" as I disappear.

I think I almost recognise the brand of trainers and shorts from the bus pic? It's not a bad pic. He may well be identified. Why now? Has it only just reached the appropriate stage of investigation? Have police exhausted all other avenues, perhaps? :-) G

The chances are that this is being treated as common assault (assault without injury) or an abh (likely that the victim has minor injuries if any). Any charge applied to the suspect would be a common assault.

If this was attempt murder then the cctv would have been released straight away. More than likely the investigation is being held by an overworked PC or civilian investigator who, after managing all the other crimes that got passed to them before this one, has finally got round to sorting the cctv out.

Unless the offender is identified and fesses up to attempt murder then the most likely to be applied will be a common assault caution or charge.

Oooh, my FB feed has added to the furore here.

Did she try and kick out at him (gawd knows why she would but...) BEFORE, he pushed her? If so, was he just trying to protect himself? But then why wouldn't he stop and see if she was OK?

Have a look at 8-10s in to any of the videos online. Her right leg def goes out to the right across him. But it might be AFTER he pushed into her and she was just trying to keep her balance?!

Curiouser and curiouser! :-) G

I see what you mean :) G but I think it's probably that her leg goes that way as she falls rather than her attempting to trip him (and as you say, why?).
