Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I generally find that turning the alarms off works best.

Cheers guys. It's good to know I'm not likely to drop any time soon.

Stumpy, interesting you say that. I had an op last year and had read in some anaesthetists books that they like to intervene with drugs if you go below 40bpm in theatre so I made sure when I saw him pre-op to tell him not do anything of the sort. He said don't worry as they wouldn't do that just on the basis of HR anyway.

At the other end of the scale my HR reached 198 as I sprinted for the line at this morning's parkrun. Remind me to leave the HR strap off for races and parkruns in future, please.

Hmm, reviving this thread, I've just taken my resting heart rate sitting at my desk and it's 72 bpm. That's much higher than everyone else here, should I worry? I think I'm reasonably fit and my BMI is 23 so I wonder if I just have a naturally high resting heart rate...? (I have also drunk quite a lot of tea this morning.)

I think El Bee made a topic on this in the articles section with peoples min & max. Some have quite the range.

I'm about 42 RHR at the moment with a max of 212.

As others have mentioned, a low heart rate can start alarm bells for medics attending you so it's worth mentioning when you go to the hospital or at the very least keeping your running club membership card in your wallet or purse so at least they know you are an athlete should you get hit by a bus

Oh & if you measure resting heart rate daily, it will shoot up 8 - 12 beats pm if you are over trained or starting to get sick. In the case of sickness this is often way before you notice any other symptoms - pretty cool & useful if you train hard.
