Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I used white vinegar in both the washing machine and dishwasher to clean those a couple of days ago, made such a difference.

I had to put bags in the OH's jacket pocket for him to remember to BYOB
Had to nag him about the reusable coffee cup & it helped when the coffee companies gave a pay back. Now he brings his reusable cup everywhere and always brings his own bag to the shops. When the coffee machine died, changed over to a ROK expresso maker which he seems to like.

Also got the OH to move over to tea leaves. He found it was stronger and so was an easy win. Still working on other areas ;)

White vinegar is great to remove scum. Also great for removing the scum in the kettle.

Day 29: Eating out / Take Away

What do you do to reduce single-use in restaurants and/or what do you do to reduce single-use stuff being given to you when ordering a take away? Are there any take away companies that are low carbon zero waste?

In Karlshrue, Germany - ordered a pizza from a company that cycled to our address and delivered the pizza in a returnable metal heat box. We supplied plates for the pizzas which were removed from the metal box and returned to the delivery cyclist.

Wine Legs
I thought I'd share this here, even though the month is not yet through.

For most of July, I've been collecting *most* of the plastic that's come from Sainsbury's, where we do the bulk of our shopping. I am someone who actively tries to avoid buying plastic, wherever reasonably possible, so this is a pretty impressive haul of basically unavoidable plastic for leading a normal life with two children.

Some of it is recyclable. Some has been missed and ended up in the recycling or bin (Binks forgets I am doing this). Some, like the milk bottles, have been saved for crafts or reused as bird seed scoops for the feeders etc.

However, the amount that's there for just a few short weeks is pretty phenomenal really. I am not happy. I am going to give it back to them. What else can we do??
