I'm actually not that keen on race labels having your name, because I habitually fill out forms with the name I was christened with, but in everyday life - and on my vest - I use a shortening. It would annoy me a bit if people shouted "Come on Jonathan" instead of "Come on Jon" (not my real name). I would guess it's also very annoying for people who don't like their first name and use their middle.

I have been a few times and depending whether racing as a fetchie (sioux) or as a fri pub member (Dave) have been able to have nickname of choice. Other races where I know they do it but haven't been asked I specify what I want but don't always get it. They never spell my first name correctly anyway.

I've even got a finish line video with Bryan Burnett, of Radio Scotland commentating on my finish. It's bril! G
