Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I think I started this phone chat and it was in relation to fast finishers helping with scanning.

My point was that if I am running fast I probably dont want my phone with me and I wouldnt leave it with my kit. Therefore its less likely that fast finishers can help with scanning if they need their own phone

I almost never have my phone with me when running as its extra weight I dont need to carry and also its in danger of being ruined if it rains - ive lost about 3 iPods to rain

The added bonus of having numbers pinned to t-shirts and vests is that we can then call it a "proper" race too

Meanwhile, I once photocopied my phone screen with a barcode on it.

That also didn't scan.

(What I didn't do was turn up anyway, show my phone screen, then get pissy about how my usual event accepts it.)

Scanning from barcode image on a phone ( using the app ) is a lot easier than scanning some of the bands ( which are either faint or have to be stretched flat ) and damp printed efforts.

Also a lot less time than waiting for someone to go through wherever they have stored their printed barcode or hopping to offer a tag tied to a shoelace.

I will no longer be interested in taking part in parkrun when women parkrunners no longer let me handle the sweaty objects usually concealed within their bra.

I guess the hopping with tag on foot also falls into a gourde like parkrun ritual and would be missed.

Back a few pages. The running number pinned to the back after you patiently explain why you pin it to the front (assuming just one has been given out) is one of the key indicators of runner cluelessness I have learned.
