As a runner from before the parkrun craze I haven't missed it from a running point of view so have done no fake events and won't. I still run to keep fit and that is enough for now. What I have missed is jogging with my friends , good banter and coffee. When parkrun returns I shall head back out there, will on occasion run hard but really I'm there for shit and giggles really. |

Not injured, I hope, DocM? Or just giving up trying to keep up with the speedy youngsters?

I've found it useful for motivation for a hard session once a week, in the same way GVRAT is motivation to keep the mileage up. With an actual race on the horizon somewhere, I'd just focus the training on that, do the speedwork that demands, and run parkrun at whatever pace fits in that week. I am totally fine with running for the pleasure of it, but seem to need a reason for speed or volume targets. |

^ the above more or less a response to Gobi's post - nothing wrong with his position, of course, just putting a different one.

I don’t always run hard enough for fake parkrun to count as a particularly hard session, but the opportunity is always there and it helps structure the week for me. I’ve gone and signed up for Harrogate Harriers virtual 10k which is going to be at least twice as hard if I run it properly. Not sure I can concentrate for that long, so I’m sure I’ll find myself slowing down at various points, assuming I remember to do it at all. 🤔 Percentage of the £5 entry goes to charity, if anyone is interested?

Badger - I'm a racer not a time trialler so have gone to zwift on my bike where I can race people hence not bothering with any hard sessions and have allowed my volume to drop as well. Once I can enter a running race I shall run hard until then my body is recovering from a winter of hard running while my lungs and heart take a hammering on the bike. Ps. What is GVRAT ? |

Could be - which charity? Before lockdown, I'd done exactly one virtual event, which was for Movember where I normally do one of their 10k races; last year, I was too focused on a PB-target half to be able to schedule one, so doubled it up as a virtual half to support & send a little money the charity's way. It's changed a bit in the last two months... |
