Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Fenix 5 family announced (no 4 - apparently it sounds like 'death' in Mandarin).
The 5X is a 5 with mapping, replacing the (never popular) Epix.

This might be the version I actually don't buy! I can see the smaller version being popular with the ladies though.

Still not convinced by mapping on such a small screen. I suppose it might do in an emergency, but usually if I'm in a situation where I need a map I'll have either/both a paper map & a mobile app.

I'm not particularly tempted by the 5X, for the same reason. I might buy a standard 5 - it looks like being the same price the 3HR originally cost, for slightly more features but minus WiFi (which I hardly ever use anyway).

I'm betting hellen buys the 5S to complete her set of Garmin ;-)

Anyone know if you can enable sound for individual workouts? I normally have them turned off, but would be handy to turn on for just interval workouts, so I don't need to feel the vibration on a cold wrist.

I see there's an IQ app called WristGenius which offers this feature, am I wrong to assume there must be a way to set it without shelling out for the app?

I suspect if someone has gone to the bother of writing an app for it that it's not normally available.

The app effectively re-skins the whole watch. You build workouts on their website which then get sent to the watch. One of the features offered is adding sounds to the workouts.
I wondered if the workouts were just xml files with a bunch of settings and the workout spec in them, so could I edit them directly for the same function...
In fact, I'll go and have a look ;)

Almost certainly xml files. That's all .FIT and GPX files are.

It's always been possible to add extra functions like proximty alerts and turn warnings, although not through Garmin sites/software.

FIT files aren't XML. I think you're thinking of tcx.
