Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

(That's useful to know about the reticulatas, Hanneke. I was hoping to naturalise some clumps of them in a reasonably well drained patch of lawn, but I might have to stick to pots. They weren't happy under the bark chips last year either.)

Stick them in pots, terracotta, those half high ones and mix the potting compost with grit. You can then dot the pots around where you want the flowers in spring and once they finish you put them somewhere out of sight till next year.
I have some in a very well drained corner of a raised bed. Everywhere else I do the pot thing.

I have quite a lot in pots (including some that shared quite happily with my son's strawberry plants) and some in a border :)

I filled in my failed onions with a mixture of Shallots including some banana shallots. Might be interesting how they go....

Just reading about them, they need really good soil, I had pepped up the bed they are in with last year's compost, so fingers crossed they'll be good. So there's garlic, red onions, banana, red and yellow shallots in there....

I made sort of a start on prepping the bed but will need to do it in dribs and drabs or ask a friend.
I did put my spuds out to chit though :)
