Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I actually managed to forget the whole reason I mentioned Bracknell track!

Trying to get a decent cd afterwards, as it got darker, I actually bloody got lost in some random housing estates however far away. Just about got back to the car before the wolves got me.

Not quite the stress of the time after the Murder Mile that I thought it'd be a good idea to do a couple of miles in the forest nearby...aiming for say 1.5m straight line out, same back...

Instead ended up properly lost in the Forest drive, eventually finding 2 randoms who told me how to get back to the "carpark".

Then realised there were 2 bastad carparks :)

Just about got out before it was locked up!

Funnily enough the parkrun the next day wasn't too tasty, bearing in mind that like an absolute tightwad I'd gone for the Premier Inn "zip" hotel on the outskirts of Cardiff (literally a box room - shower and toilet - but no window or space) 30 odd mins away...only to then have to drive 30mins back to a parkrun near the Murder Mile the next day!!!

Muddyfunster wrote:Excellent race @stevieg with all the grass, dodgy surfaces and gates. Nice tension transitioning to relief finishing picture. Funny how a 5 second gap to the next finisher puts you out of sight in that photo too. I finished 7 seconds ahead of someone recently but in my mental picture of the finish he was tucked in behind me. .

There was one pic with about 150m to go where you have me and a Maidy guy literally on my shoulder, then the next 2 seemingly not far behind.

There's nothing quite like turning up at a race knowing exactly who you will be battling.
Even worse at a series with the same person.

I saw another Maidy guy who I had an epic 3-2 battle with about a decade or more back! He's a 20xx type guy now, but life has kicked in for him. But he had me that series, as the 3 was in his favour.

Come to think of it, I can still remember the main man telling me "don't go mad, remember your age" before that Sandhurst sesh at Bracknell track.

At 31!

Cheers for all the 3000 comments, only need to find another 35/40 seconds from somewhere to get near last years 9.06!

Too tired to go training yesterday, so ran to Primrose Hill after work and did 6 reps. Good to see a few other runners going up and down too.

Quiet weekend, probably join in with Ollie's Bedford group tomorrow morning. tempos and hills type thing.

C Race job.

38.36 is very decent Stevie. I did my last all out 10k on a great course and I felt absolutely murdered for 38 - made the mistake of doing it only a week after a 37.39 10k and thought I'd had nowhere near enough recovery.

(Possibly) interestingly (to tie in with your blog entry), I did the faster one in an old pair of Alphaflys accidentally. I'd forgotten my racing shoes but had the old alphas in the secret compartment in the boot of my car (no Jason Statham style light armoury for me, just smelly old runners). So the point of interest is that I ran faster on an undulating 10k using the heavy old marathon shoes versus the lighter weight shoes on a pancake flat course, and felt much less battered by the faster, tougher race.

At least 41 miles last week, managed to lose a run through inattention to the watch battery level. At the weekend I jibbed out of parkrun effort due to a thunderstorm and nearly persuaded myself not to do a long slow run after a long drive home last night. Fortunately 10.5 miles in 80 mins went by fairly quickly and I could keep the consistent mileage going - 6 weeks averaging 40 mpw is my best spell in years.

Solid for a tempo @stevieg

Weekend wasn't too bad. three part training on Saturday morning,

1. Steady Houghton Hall PR in 20.40
2. Joined in with Ollies Bedford session - 1 mile 7mm, 1 mile tempo (5.40), 8 x hills (40 secs climb each) then 1 mile tempo (5.23) then another steady back to the track
3. 10 x 200 off 45 on the grass behind the track

Sunday's was Greensand Ridge reccie again, legs 5 &6 like last week, but leg 6 with Ollie this time.

Still not feeling brilliant running wise, the 3000m at W

Decent 10K racing @stevieg & MuddyBeen a long time since I did one of them.

Similar to me mileage wise @Muddyfunster I managed 6 weeks at 40+mpw leading into Newport marathon + race week. I then had 5 days rest & only ran on the Saturday before another 7 weeks averaging 43 mpw. Wish I could say I was seeing any speed benefits.

Parkrun Saturday was a slightly better 21:13 on my local twisty off-road course which was at least 72% AG. Yesterday’s 14.2M LR was v.slow as I was determined to keep HR below 80%max even on the climbs.

Good luck @LBAC Si Insane amount of training feeling sub-par.

Hi there - this thread started in 2010 over on RW and started as an improvement thread for myself under Moraghan's coaching, through to more of a general collaboration tool and place to share training and long winded race reports.

Thanks to the fetch community for allowing us to move over, and we'd welcome loads of new contributors adding to the thread, as we were definitely running on empty with a small bunch of posters near the end!
