Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I've been enjoying reading this thread over the past few weeks ... I took up HMT at the end of Sept 2008 after reading the Parker book ... after 2 months my 10K race time came down from 51:38 to 47:54. However, the training method also encouraged me to run more miles and run more often (since I was much less tired after training) ... so in the end I fell into the over-use injury trap and had 6 weeks out with ITBS. So beware! :-)

Re-started running in January but so far I've ignored my heart rate ... just wanted to get some basic fitness back and work on my running form (to avoid more ITBS). So far so good - managed two sub 24 min 5Ks, one being a PB. So now I'll be back to HMT ... well, as soon as my current bout of man-flu dies down. Cough cough.

Huff, is there any chance at all that just once, just perhaps *one* little time, one *tiny* little singular miniscule time, you might manage to post on this thread *without* mentioning your efficiency cult?

Ok, back to HR.

After thinking I was seeing some improvement on Saturday I had a rubbish run today.

5 miles Av Pace 13:54 Av HR 146 (69% WHR)

Same route as 29th Jan, 4 minutes slower for the same HR.

But hey ho, keep the faith etc. This was on snow and my HR seemed to be spiking then falling quite dramatically today and I had to walk a couple of times to just get it sorted out a bit. Don't think my head was in the right place. Tomorrow is another day.

That is still a good run Roo because you ran easy. It matters not that there is no apparent progress. The progress is that you ran more miles easily. Patience, just have a little patience *sways to Take That* :-)

16 miles done today. 64% whr. 11.07 m/m.

Doddle apart from the last 2 miles which were almost 12 m/m and a real struggle. Forgot my drink. oops.

Roo, how accurate is your resting rate ? Your stats are very similar to mine but your low RHR is the thing that makes your % targets so different to mine.

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
