Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Boab - since you seem a bit of an authority on distance in these parts - how do you do as much training as you do, without getting injured? What's the secret?

LOL J.

Illegal Saucepan. I am no authority on this method of training, however I do think that it has helped me to reduce my PB's. I think running itself is a good way to avoid injury. Seems a silly thinkg to say but the more you run the stronger your bones, muscles and tendons become. Having said that, about 18 months ago I looked into the way I run, i.e. technique and after much faffing around with various theories and methods I chose to follow POSE method. Mrs Boab who had chronic knee pain for two years also switched to POSE and has been running without knee pain since June.

Avoiding injury is one sure way to PB's.

Just about to start on this Hadd malarky myself.

I see a lot of people don't seem to get the point of it. It isn't "slow running and loads of miles", the aim of the game is to improve the physiology and push the LT higher so one can run at a higher intensity yet still be in an "aerobic range" and last far longer and be far fresher. This also in turn for obvious reasons also pushes up the level of intensity it takes for you to start hitting into the "anaerobic range" and therefore you'll be able to achieve much more at a shorter distance aswell when you do push into it.
The key to performance is pushing the LT as high as you can so even at an insanely high speed you're still banging away for hours aerobically, look at Haille for an example. The higher you push your LT, the faster you'll be able to train at to keep pushing it up. This is contrary to the philosophy most have with training in that you have to grit your teeth and bang through your LT breathing through your arse trying to improve your fitness when in reality you're doing the opposite.

If you start getting knackered at a given pace and can't sustain it for yonks and still be up for going round again, you're cutting it too fast for how you're currently conditioned, regardless of speed.

and the solution isn't to just run for an increasingly longer time at said nackering pace till you can last that long and still feel like shit doing it
