Perhaps why the transfer rumours started already. I guess if Manchester United really want someone and they haven't got European football to promise they might need to act faster and hope the club name is the pull. He's only 25 and never played European football so it's not obvious that European football is the clincher of a transfer deal.

Not having European football next season could aid United to have a very good season in 25-26. Likewise, Palace and Forest may find next season a struggle with extra fixtures and all the travel.

The dilemma of modern day football. Fewer fixtures but smaller income and lesser pull for big players.

Newcastle probably shown the 2 sides of the coin the last 2 seasons. Chelsea have previously benefitted from a fallow European year for certain. And no doubt Spurs' poor league position this season was (partly) due to concentrating on the Europa League.

Let's be honest, aside from juvenile banter, who really cares whether you finish 17th or 9th.

Once Spurs knew they were safe what was the point of caring about the League?

Agree. That's the point. Postecoglu said he'd win and win he did. They were probably safe in the league in December. I've not studied their team selections enough but he knew what the best priority was and adapted appropriately.

As a Spurs fan watching them week in, week out, I think blaming our poor league form on "concentrating on the Europa" is giving Ange too much credit.

We went out of both domestic cups playing badly against Liverpool and Villa and apart from a good run in the autumn of away wins at United, City and Southampton, we have been dire - including losing at home to both Ipswich and Leicester. 38 points is relegation form in most other seasons and I don't buy that we "wrote off" the league to concentrate on Europa.

The buzz around the club is incredible after Wednesday, but it won't be long wearing off if our league form continues into next season.

Depends how well they do, but I'd hazard a guess Spurs will make an awful lot more from the Champions League. And Ange was chasing "I always win in my second season". He was never chasing the money.

In fact I think it's 18m Euro just for qualifying. So that's worth 6 league positions already.
