Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Fozzy there is an event campsite at Linnhe but as it says on the 6-day website the numbers are currently capped by Covid regulations. Those that organised themselves early/committed (and that doesn't include me) got spaces the rest of us didn't. I guess the hope was that as restrictions were be eased the cap could be raised. Though I'm not sure how realistic that is now? There is also a waiting list and the ability to enter the event at the last minute, so you could go on the waiting list and only enter the event if a space came up.

Personally given the increased level of uncertainty about the dates for lifting of restrictions (the area needs to be at Scottish Level 0) for the event to go ahead I'm waiting until things get clearer before entering. I'm fed up with entering stuff/making arrangements and then having to cancel everything.

FF - yes, I was aware of Linnhe, but normally the event campsite is open to all, no capped numbers etc.

When I mailed them, they didn't seem to indicate that there was a waiting list. I was just told they were full. End of.

Same at Glen Nevis camping.

Everywhere else was ridiculously expensive, although to be fair, I didn't look at Glen Coe.

More importantly, today I need to get my work done as I've got to get the stuff ready for an event this evening that I've planned.

It's in Potternewton Park, which truth be told is not the most exciting of venues, but I've planned a "sprint" (~20min elite WT) course as best as I can - it might be a test of who can run fastest in a straight line....

I was interested to see that there is a proposal to equalise men’s and women’s courses in competitions so they have the same estimated finish times. I’m a bit puzzled why they are focusing on that rather than just using the same courses for both genders.

As a relative newbie, I was wondering if there was a good reason for this? Maybe female competitors in general prefer a shorter course? I’d be interested to know.

This is only an issue at international (WOC) events, where the long distance is planned to 70min EWT for Women and 90min for Men.

Which is stupid.

At domestic level, all champs should be planned to the same EWT.

Personally I'd be happy to have them run the same course if that's what is wanted.

There's too much beaucracy involved in planning some of the major events

We discussed this on here some years ago. I have since changed my stance and think it makes sense to have different length courses for the two sexes. It seems to me that the course lengths should allow for both men and women to be out running roughly the same amount of time. So the women's course will be shorter in distance but the expected time on course would be the same as the men's.
