Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

Aaargh, still in the 990s. Foolishly attempted the defense to the fried liver I followed on YouTube the other day and forgot a crucial move.

White blundered there taking the rook as he was quite a bit up if he hadn't. Slightly different position from the fried liver which comes out of the Italian game. I think the f2 move is more effective there even without errors by white.

It'd be interesting to see what would have happened if he hadn't, as most moves were forced, but maybe I wouldn't have been able to use some of the positions I did

Yeah it would be. I think it's one of those positions you have to play perfectly.

I play the d5 Na5 moves that Jules discussed although I was playing live one time and played the wrong move instinctively which was annoying.

I generally just don't play into it any more and go for Bc5 instead of the two knights defence in the Italian.

The line with 4...Bc5 and 5....Bxf2+ is called the Traxler by Gotham Chess, the Fried Liver is 4....Nxd5 by Black (a mistake). He's done Youtube videos on them. The Traxler is very complicated!

One of the Fetchaies (possibly Joophy?) met a Traxler Counter Attack in our Runners match & it didn’t end well
