@um , absolutely right about greenfinches! They're not easily shaken from their perch on the feeder once they've got stuck in.

Greenfinches and Goldfinches (and Sparrows) seem quite tolerant of each other on our sunflower heart feeders. The feeders accommodate four birds of that size quite happily. A Magpie has made an attempt at hanging onto the underside of it to have a scavenge. Needless to say that he had no company whilst doing so. |

Update on my blue tit box on the ground. Even though I wedged it in between 2 large filled flower pots, it has tipped over again this morning. Could be the wind or could be a nocturnal animal. The babies seem to be OK - as soon as I put it upright, the parents came in and there are plenty of fledgling calls. I’ve now cable-tied the box to the decking balustrade and it’s secure.

Not fully convinced but I may have seen a peregrine now in luxurious Darlington. It initially swooped for a fight with a crow but then retreated and I partly lost sight of it. I may have an idea where it landed but if have did have a nest up there then I’m surprised I hadn’t noticed it before. Not that I’m going to be on daily alert now!!!
