Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Surprisingly few gulls here in the Black Mountains!

Sparrows flitting around outside in the wisteria.

Anyone know why there is this change in urban gull species? Why should lesser black-backs be starting to dominate? What is working in their favour now?

Not sure, but definitely not the case in North Wales, I would say 95% of breeding pairs are still herring gulls.

Is it inland or further south where there is a difference?

Seeing lots and lots of swallows joining together on the telegraph wires. Guess that means they'll be going soon ☹️. Starting to get lots of geese flying over in the evenings heading over to the Dee.

Favourite spot at the moment though is the mob of LTT in the garden. All over the shop at the moment, on the trees and the feeders.

Disturbed a green woodpecker on this morning’s run and had a great view of it flying away; extremely loud alarm call! Heard a singing chiffchaff too

I brought the garden on a lot since Covid but it isn't any different from last year... Oh, holdon, unless they are partial to wild carrot seeds! They cam through really stronly in my 50/50 annual/perennial pollinator mix...
