Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I thought DT was advising on Roberto's mouse ...'get another barn owl'.

We've had mice in the garden for years, never any problem in the house or garage, except when the cat decides o bring one in to show us.

But we don't have decking. That's probably liek a stately home to a mouse.

Baby spotted woodpecker around yesterday - but only on the fence, not the feeders yet.

I'll try the barn own suggestion first before I consider anything else

I have the same experience as um, I only know we have mice in the garden as the cat occasionally brings one in.

Roberto I had a Field Mouse living in my patio wall for ages that used to come out and hoover the ground under my feeders. It never caused me any issues so I left it alone. Occasionally I've had them in my roof space in the winter and I do tend to discourage them when I find them (electronic repellent seems to work quite well) but I've never had any problems as a result of them being there. Field mice seem to be much more nervous than their House cousins and much more wary of getting too close.

Ok thanks, I'll leave it be for now then. I'm just wary of the fact we are the only ones of the 5 gardens that all connect to each other with bird feeders so dont want to cause any problem with neighbours by visibly attracting mice.

Roberto, I think field mice are pretty ubiquitous anyway. They're out there and you only see them when a cat brings them in. I've got to know them very well, as our cats tend to release them unharmed in the house, whereupon I have to catch them and then release them through a little hole under the fence at the bottom of the garden. I'm convinced that the cats have moved beyond the stage of playing with the mice they've caught, and have moved on to betting on how long it will take me to catch them as their main sport.

We had about 50 screaming swifts over our garden today - the largest gathering I've seen in years. Sadly it rubs in just how much they've declined - in the 80s I see them by the hundred...

I'd love to have mice around my feeders, as I only get rats.
