Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Fragile Do Not Bend
We have loads of pheasants hereabouts too, lots of fields have seed dispensing gizmos around the edges for them.

Fantastic starling murmuration in Belfast tonight. Sadly I had green lights the whole way so had no time to stop and enjoy it!

Yesterday's big surprise on a nice easy run at the coast - crossbills, the first I've ever seen in this country! They were not far from an area where I know they have been sighted with some frequency over the years (although not by me, despite many attempts), but they weren't in the coniferous woodland on the coast but half a mile inland, moving around a few mature ornamental conifers outside a pub!

I picked up the call at first and thought "That's interesting!", then observed them moving from treetop to treetop in a little group, as they do. Didn't actually get a clear sighting (didn't have my bins), but didn't need one, having seen them on many occasions abroad.

Also on the run, a lovely view of a goldcrest close up, oodles of brent geese and a couple of marsh tits (saw some on Saturday as well, somewhere completely different, for the first time in ages).

Running birding has remained quiet but a single siskin and a couple of Goosanders this morning were the only birds that pulled me from my zone!
Long tailed, Coal, Great and Blue Tits all regularly in my garden--I notice that my resident Robin particularly dislikes Coal Tits and sends them packing everytime they go to the feeders . If the Robin is elsewhere they have a quick feast.

Interesting Steve, our Robin particularly dislikes the chaffinches, which I'm pleased to say we have three. Really pleased with the garden, with working full-time again I've been filling the feeders and seeing them empty with no idea what is going on.

As well as those above, goldfinches and greenfinches doing well, few blue tits, blackbirds, sparrows and a couple of coal tits. Really lovely to see.

River walk yesterday, highlights teal, lapwings and large numbers of curlew.

Just added a wren to the garden list, picking away at the decaying wood pile, so plenty of grubs there.

Eynsham the Red knows rain dear.
We had the joy of a robin hopping and flitting around the hangar at work today. Whether because it was cold or whether it was looking for another source of food I’m not sure.

Two Goosanders again this morning, probably the same two but a mile away. Small group of ten Chaffinches (I don't see many groups locally) and lots of frost!
