Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

HowFar?
Just cycling down my lane this morning and three curlews gently glided to a landing in the field in front of the bungalow.

My first ever definite hawfinch today - that's a biggie for me! I was planning a trail run so decided to drive out via the place I went the other day, where they had been sighted (although I had drawn a blank). I wasn't hopeful as I hadn't heard of any sightings since Thursday, but there were a couple of guys there who had seen a couple, fleetingly, that morning. As we spoke, a hawfinch flew over and landed, obligingly, on the top of a tree some way off. A short while later I got a much better view, once again of one perched at the top of a tree. I also saw 6-7 in flight a short distance away, then another 2 in flight slightly nearer. I left with a big smile on my face! It's a bird I've wanted to see since I was a boy.

Apparently there was a sand martin at Burton Mere in Cheshire over the weekend. Must be spring!

Despite indications to the contrary.

My brambling is still hopping about under the feeders.
