I forgot black redstart, which I was particularly pleased with. Having heard that they are urban dwellers and never seen one before I wasn't really sure where I would ever get the opportunity.

Black Red is a lovely bird. We saw one in Seaton town centre in Devon maybe three years ago

Black Redstarts are one of those birds whose distribution puzzles me. They're pretty rare here, but cross the Channel and they're all over the place. Same with Black Kites. Hmm, sensing a pattern here...

Day out today to Middleton Lakes near Tamworth. Lovely sunny day with lots of snow underfoot. 57 species in total including a Great White Egret which was a first and number 159 for the year. Also had terrific multiple close views of a Water Rail from 3 separate visits to one view point. On one occasion it was out scavenging under some feeders with the Dunnocks and two rats! Great views of a pair of Stonechats too, such striking birds 😀

Need to come to East Anglia J2R - we've had 3 GWE on the local RSPB reserve all autumn. Becoming relatively frequent visitors down here.

Presume they don’t breed (yet)? Little egret were apparently very rare until relatively recently. They’ve become quite common

FF: you should’ve called for a cuppa.
Redwing in our garden earlier. Probably eyeing up the berry bush the blackbirds having been feasting on.
