Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Poetic licence 57.5.

UK was in the EU for only 47years. A good indicator for just how easy (and beneficial for us) it should be to be to unwind the Union.

This thread now lost all relevance , in view of the stance of the incoming Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Best to consign it to its own footnote in Fetch history , back in 2014 , when santababy and daviec roamed the Earth .

I put it in Politics thread but seems more relevant here. Thanks Zorbs.

I see Scottish gov't petition to Supreme Court for a ruling on holding another independence referendum has UK gov't submission going in today.

I quite like Scot Gov's argument that it's "only a referendum" (advisory) so we can do what we like. Which will then be followed (if won, of course, and that's a very big IF) with "democratic mandate / will of the people" type argument that legislation should follow.

I think they're also looking for a ruling on whether actually Scotland should have the right to legislate for independence too, if it wants, as an inalienable right to self determination. Good luck with that one! (I'm no constitutional lawyer though, of course!) UK Gov looking to throw it out on the basis that the situation hasn't yet arisen (no such legislation being raised by Scot Gov).

What fun!  :-) G

I love Zorba's confidence in the longevity of the UK's next ex-PM. They seem to change more often than some people change underwear.

Why anyone thinks a liberal democrat recreating herself as the second coming of Maggie Thatcher is the saviour of the union is a mystery to me.

I’m still here. God help us, when you think things can’t get any worse along comes truss.

Country is an absolute disgrace. Corrupt to the core. Where the £34 BILLION gone from track n disgrace ? Have all the other corrupt contracts been investigated yet? Michele mone et al. How much money has been staffed up the wall by the Tories while normal working families will have no money to heat house and soaring prices means little to eat too.

Saw report that the new chancellor made a pretty penny from oil investments so don’t expect that to change anytime soon.

Utter disgrace.

Independence is normal. Show me a country who’s done and and regretted it.

Im not on here very often, I just came on and saw a notification for this thread

Absolutely right santa. Scotland more than ever need to decide its own destiny. For what it's worth I firmly believe it , Scotland in the EU will be better off both financially and culturally.

As much as I want rid of the Tory administration I don’t see it being as simple and as bright a future as others do.

For all the positives independence would have financial implications for most of Scotland in the short term and most likely the medium term. Whether it’s better in the long term is anyones guess

I don’t much fancy the SNP being in charge although I know there is talk of them splintering if independence is achieved. I don’t see that happening or not immediately anyway.

I hate the way our nation is divided down the middle now.

Goes off to change name to harbinger of doom ;-)

Baz - why would you vote SNP if they've achieved their primary aim as a political party?
