Doc: if it’s maths then the numbers are the worst for any subject. Because if the extra maths exams they offer twice as many places as they have because 50% do not get the required mark. Ds1 has been looking at the different subjects and offer to places numbers and whilst economics is pretty good (22 places and 24 offers last year for his college), maths is unique. He found all the numbers online but fmail me if you’d like him to chat to your son.

Also I don’t know what other offers your son has but ds1 said that Warwick and maybe some others reduced their offer numbers a lot this year so they could get more overseas students in (more £ who could blame them), but that situation will obviously change as there will be fewer overseas students. He got rejected by Warwick and still hasn’t heard from Durham or LSE. Southampton gave him a low offer the week after he applied back in September!

thanks, yes its maths. son has a full house of offers and no doubt he would have a place elsewhere (not meant to sound arrogant but not sure how else to put it!) as his A level grades are not in any doubt. Other 17 year old will be much more at the mercy of what grades he is awarded for his choices.

Well I’m sure they’ll work out some sort of solution to the extra maths exams, it must be very hard to differentiate between students otherwise (no pun intended!) It sounds like he has some good choices to make. Ds1 was hellbent on Cambridge but resigned to going to Warwick instead and then they rejected him! If it doesn’t work out then he still liked Durham though maybe not the course so much. Wherever they all end up they will probably be happy, I know plenty of kids who ended up somewhere not their first choice or in clearing and we’re happy where they ended up. I suppose clearing now won’t happen! It’s all just one big clearing in a way!

just spoke to son...he is far more comfortable about it all than i am. He says they still have transcripts from the interview etc and is confident they can choose. Also on STEP website it words it as "may not take place as scheduled".

They’ll be putting some sort of plan in place. My main concern is that this current clusterfuck will still be impacting our kids’ lives in October when uni starts...

I'm in school on Monday and we've been told we are not to 'teach' children, but will be doing lots of other activities. They will be able to do the homework packs the other children have been given, but the emphasis is definitely on childcare (should have said we're KS2). It's non-uniform for everyone and lots of craft activities, music, sport etc. I love the post Purps has put up as, to be fair, none of us want to be in this position and the last thing any of us need is more stress!

Ours have to wear uniform, but are doing the same work as those at home. Hopefully Mr W's school will send him home and we can relieve the juniors of T9!

Our school is to have a relaxed dress code for pupils and staff, although the head is relaxed about uniform anyway. I'm in first thing Monday, will get a better idea of what's expected of me then I suppose.
