Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I can't imagine many people run barefoot over winter? Going ankle deep in slush and snow is bad enough with socks and shoes on!

But then, you'd have to start again every spring?

Most of the time, "barefoot", for me, means in barefoot shoes of some kind. At the moment, and through the summer, it'll be Xero sandals; in the dish and snow, it's socks and Vivobarefoot trail shoes

I watched a programme a while ago with a couple of survival people - somewhere cold, with lots of snow, and one of them was barefoot - and the other one thought he was nuts

VJ, that's how I do it/ use itj. I try to incorporate barefoot to strengthen my feet, improve my form and hence reduce my injury risk. I am also able to wear almost any trainers. I'm not putting that down solely (no pun intended!) to trying to go as minimal as possible 10-12 years ago when I started running. But I got away from built up shoes really early on. And I've never needed or used orthotics, not do I need any specific types of trainers. I've got £25 trainers that have caused me no more or less problems than £150 shoes. :-) G

Did my 0.5 miles again today in the garden, at the end of a 9.5 miler to round up to 10! It was flippin freezing on feet running in wet grass. Feet were numb. Quite a nice feeling actually! :-) G

That was my 3rd 0.5 mile barefoot round the garden at the end of a 4 mile run in a week! More barefoot than I've done in a year, I think! :-) G

Nice one G.

Longest Xero run for me too, 3.5 miles. Legs ache and feet feel a bit battered so that is far enough for now.

Took it off road, slopes are interesting... The forest paths and lake shore were fab though. Had a little paddle too and they were fine wet. I wanted to see if they'd go all slippy or if the cords would stretch, but both seemed ok
