Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I had a barbecue on Lekki Beach (probably not spelled right) in Lagos one Christmas. It was nice but weird. It's not right to enjoy a dip in the Atlantic at Xmas.

I was in Bruges the new year the euro came in, they attempted blind robbery for everything. Sodding Cold too. Agree on Amsterdam temperature-wise, great city.

Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco for good Christmasy places?

SF can be unexpectedly S.Cold, as can Lisbon.

I remember a day in Bradford when it was so cold with an evil wind-chill that I went out then turned straight back home again

Vancouver, Seattle - pick one, you can’t have both otherwise you’d have to include Portland. “Great cities of the PNW”. It’d be a short deathmatch.

PNW probably doesn’t include Anchorage - I’m not even sure it includes Vancouver. A lot of the time it strikes me as shorthand for ‘Washington and Oregon’. I’ve got the Lonely Planet down by my bed somewhere- I’ll check later.

[I have a *lot* of Lonely Planet guides- I sort of collect them]

Gosh - eight completely one-sided games. Not a lot of point in keeping them open. Will do the needful today or tomorrow.

‘The coldest sodding winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco’ - Mark Twain (with ‘sodding’ added).
