Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Opinions? Moi?

I agree about the soft rock point. I thought the earlier stuff was the usual prog twaddle, but not unpleasantly so. The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway was...interesting.

I'm keener on Gabriel's solo work, some of which is brilliant.

I loved Genesis post-Gabriel for a while*. Seconds Out is a truly excellent live album.

*loved up to and including Wind and Wuthering, liked up to and including Abacab**.

**how do we remember this stuff?

David Quantick today on Twitter:

“ If today's big new is that fucking Genesis are reforming, I for one will be on the roof shouting WE'RE DOWN HERE at the big asteroid.”

Mildly amusing, but firmly in the bracket of "MY MUSICAL TASTE IS PERFECT AND EVERYTHING OUTSIDE IT IS THE APOCALYPSE HOW DARE YOU DISAGREE" for me. I once asked one of my colleagues whether he did in fact believe there was a truly objective standard for good music, which just happened to match exactly with his tastes. Obviously, he doubled down and said yes.

PG 3 is one of my all time favourites, and I rather agree with Grep about when post-Gabriel Genesis went wrong for me.

Yeah, but the thing about Genesis is they wrote some cracking tunes...

They were my favourite prog group until Gabriel left, followed by King Crimson and Van Der Graaf Generator. 45 years later i probably have them in the reverse order.

Always glad of an excuse to bring this photo out

It’s worth remembering that for those of us who were into soul, Bowie and Bolan that we really didn’t like that twiddly stuff.

The Hardrock was brilliant Christy wasn’t it - it’s a B&Q now though ☹️ I saw Ace there and Rufus “FEATURING” Chaka Khan and the magnificent Tower of Power.

*correction*. The Hardrock/B&Q was shut last summer for redevelopment as overspill car parking for Old Trafford cricket ground.
