As another month passes and we have all perhaps spent more time at home than usual, I thought how maybe we have done a little more DIY than usual (or maybe just thought about it) and with a bank holiday weekend the temptation to pick up the power tools may be there, but perhaps we shouldn’t. I’m feeling smug as I put a fence up today, and all went well, may be I’m just lucky.
Here we have the most common reasons for ending up in A&E following DIY accidents Top of the list is falls. Often caused by gutter cleaning, roof repairs, tree trimming or even just changing a light bulb. Choosing the right ladder for the job is crucial and often poor choice is what leads to the accident.

Next we have falling objects. This could be the tree branch that you are pruning, loose tiles on roofs. The advice is to have someone with you to act as a spotter. I suppose if nothing else they can watch you get hit. 11 Richard-M 183 44% 12 MAD Superman 182 43% 13 theOtherRichard 180 42% 14 Minimag 176 38% 15 StuartM 174 36% 16 Dudie 171 34% 17 DocM 170 34% 18 CrispByNature 167 31% 19 NDWDave 163 28% 20 johnnywoo77 163 28% Cuts. From saws, pruners, scissors and knives. Blunt tools tend to make you press harder and more likely for them to slip. Good quality work gloves may also save you a trip to the hospital.

Poisoning. There are plenty of nasty chemicals for the home and garden. Incorrect use, poorly labelled or just leaving them in the reach of youngsters are all a risk.

Maybe it would be just safer to spend the bank holiday weekend on the sofa.

Thanks for the roundup DocM, however, I think you’ve used the March totals not April?

LOL! Great round up (even if the wrong totals!).
Particularly poignant after my First Aid exploits this week - worst ever head injury I've had to deal with in my teaching career. I have never seen so much blood (and I speak as someone who haemorrhaged during childbirth) there were puddles of it!
My knee is still 'a bit dodgy' so tomorrow shall be a rest day. I'm doing a Phoenix race at Denbies Vineyard on Monday - I'll just have to see how it goes.
