Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I'm interested in what people think about them - do you do them? How do you run them - i.e. do you do them as LSRs? or part LSR, part MP? Or as a flat out race?

How many weeks out should you not do them? - I've heard quite a few people saying they left their best races out on the road doing a 20miler 4weeks before a marathon target.

I am interested too. I havent done one before, but I have signed up for East Hull this year.
Do I race it? Do I do it at marathon pace? Do I plod at LSR pace?

I was going to do it at PMP, but one of Gobi's posts elsewhere made me think I shouldn't (though he wasn't specifically talking about this).

I was thinking the same, and Gobi's comments have made me think twice as well.

I'm doing Trimpell and thinking about East Hull as well. If nothing else, it's an LSR on the roads that I don't have to do on my own.

I did Ashby last year at the pace I ended up running Prague Marathon a couple of months later.

This year, I have a pretty different marathon aim, so I'm really not sure what I'm goimg to do at Ashby yet, as it's also closer to the marathon. I am waiting for guidance from my coach, who is pretty cockamamie, tbh ;-)

I ran East Hull 3 or 4 weeks before Rotterdam last year, and got carried away and ran the whole thing at 3.15 marathon pace.

Finished Rotterdam in 3.57.

This year I'll be running the latter part at 3.30 MP, but not sure how much yet.

I did one last year as part of the build up to VLM. It was about 6 weeks before. As a novice I couldn't really treat it as anything other than a long slow run. I'm doing the same race again this year and it's 7 weeks before. My intention is to do some of it at PMP (probably the downhill bits!) although it is a hilly course so there are other benefits for me in doing it. I think the very fact that it's a race means you have a different mindset about it. I always run differently when there are others around me (or in this case miles in front of me) to when I'm on my own. It's also good for working out when to take gels etc.

My 20 is four weeks out, I have a half at three weeks. WHich I had considered going for a peeb at.

This too sounds like a bad idea, but my half peeb is lame.

About This Thread

I'm interested in what people think about them - do you do them? How do you run them

Advice from Gobi:

5 miles @ MP + 60-90( time to get loose so start close to 90 and work down)
5 miles @ MP + 45-60
5 miles @ MP + 30-45
4 miles @ MP
1 mile however you like
1 mile cool down

The 1 mile cool down came into force as I discovered coaching nobody wants to back off at 19miles and look like they have blown up so we invented the go race the last mile and then do a cool down rule
