First handicap of the year for me, never really look forward to it either, always think it will be 'enjoyable' but realise that its actually bloody hard work.
Got given number 40 which I think was about right, seemed as always lots in front but had my target of 9min to beat but as a minimum I wanted to beat my previous best of 9.18.
Set off around 5.40 pace partly as people were watching and partly to get my body used to working hard, gradually passed a few in front, slowed up as I hit the later part of the mile coming upto the bridge saw loads over the other side that looked so far in front, mile clicked past and I felt well and truly shattered tried to keep up pace but had dropped to 6.20m/m which I knew wasn't good enough, passed heyjude around 1.25 miles and about that time John Richmond came flying past (only one to pass me :))
Really dug in for last bit and was very pleased when I crossed the line, got the course short at 1.47miles as normal but very happy the 9min had been beaten. Lungs felt like they were on fire and took quite a few mins to recover, not sure how many more of these I will do this year got my target time so no pressure
You really came flying past, sub 9 great time & big pb well done!
well done speedy
Brilliant run! Nothing I could do as you sped past!
well done mate, the rest after the 5k obviously worked wonders!
Sub 9 minutes sounds v cool and only one overtook. Great run, well done.
Handicap and enjoyable are two words I never expect to see together!
