Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Notes & Comments

STRETTON SKYLINE FELL RACE. 19 miles and 4,450 feet of pure torture. Well actually, the first half was
fairly enjoyable and then the torture set in. I set off half hour early with 4 others (and Rich
who was accompanying me), and for a long long time was last. The 'main' racers started
to come past when I was at about 6 or 7 miles. Then amazingly a couple of the early
starters were in sight on the Lawley (11-ish miles), one of them was really struggling,
and I went past them. Then I over took another towards the end (17ish miles), so
was actually really chuffed to finish 2nd out of the 5 early starters, but still 5th from
last (including Rich, who didn't pip me to the post!!) overall. The last 3 or 4 miles was sheer
pain and gritted teeth - a long long gradual uphill, my back was absolutely killing
me, the wind was a hurricane against me, and I couldn't run a step (but then neither
could anyone else I could see), and then really painful stitch on the last descent

back down into the valley. I was completely delirious and nauseous at the end, and
could barely put a sentence together, although there were lots of people I knew at
the end congratulating me. I finished in 4.34 (target time was 4.30) so absolutely
fine with that. It's generally thought of as a marathon plus 10-20 minutes so I'm happy
with that. Definitely the hardest thing I've done so far!! Not one I'd enter lightly again,
but a real achievement :-)
