Gut Buster 10 (3rd)

Mud, mud, water, mud, water, mud, mud, mud and just a wee bit more mud.

We had a lot of rain overnight so I was expecting things to be much much wetter and thus muddier and more slippery this year so I took full advantage of the road sections at the beginning to push the pace as I knew I'd have no choice but to rein things in when it got slippery, and slippery it got. Very slippery. Got to the first 10k/10mile split in the route in third and tried to catch the second place chappy, but he was doing just as well (or poorly) as me so didn't manage to reel him in. There was no way I was catching the first place guy, he was miles ahead. Finished third overall and may have taken the series win too 🎉

Once again, a great fun race, with things particularly challenging this year due to the extra rain and a few changes. The ford was mid-calf deep, some of the boggy parts of the route were ankle deep in mud and the new brook crossing was easily knee to lower-thigh deep. The run across TWO freshly ploughed fields to the finish was especially challenging with absolutely no traction at all. Sadly, the 10 mile results are once again affected by peeps missing one of the splits in the route - probably the second 😞.
