Shit, Mal. That's really not the reaction you need.

I have found that very few people actually understand depression isn't a choice...

Your reply should have been 'Yes, I do it every fucking day... look at me, I'm trying not to be depressed right now, can't you see it'

Regarding Help:

I recently went to see my doctor, who referred me back to the mental health people at the hospital. I had a conversation over the phone with someone who could barely speak English and who had no concept of how I was feeling.. He asked me why I thought I was this way and I began by telling him the current issue was triggered by my husband leaving me.... Well, that bit seems to be all he heard because about 5 minutes later he shouted.. and yes I mean he SHOUTED down the phone at me "what the hell do you expect us to do.. it's not like we can force him to come back to you". I was utterly speechless!

I've now lost faith in seeking help. I don't trust anybody and it seems pointless even trying to see the doctor again. I will probably return to the Counsellor at MIND in 10 weeks because she is the only person who has bothered to listen to me and attempt to understand how I am beyond what has triggered this particular episode. For now, expect me to offload on Fetch!

Sorry in advance...

That's a horrendous response jangles. Anyone working in mental health, whether in a hospital or any other civic body, should know better. That's negligence, and professional misconduct. They should be struck off. We expect more from our health professionals. I'm incensed on your behalf. Hope you can get contact with some of the (many, I believe) much better professionals who are supposed to help.

Sorry to hear about your experience Jangles (just shocking really).
I am sad to say that I have spoken with others that had a similarly awful experience.

Great to hear that you feel your being listened to at MIND.

The poor lady my GP referred me to years ago seemed more troubled than me.
So like you I sought help elsewhere.

Where I live in Poole/Bournemouth I found an organisation that offers counselling for free (minimal donation) by final year counselling students. The lady I saw had some lilfe experience - i.e. brought up kids and all that.

i didn't realise it at the time, but the counselling (on top of being a lifeline) was what I needed before I got myself regular therapy.

Well.......offloading is all part of it isn't it?
I for one (as I am sure will others that read and post here), will be hoping to read your posts with you offloading over the next 10 weeks, get stuck in I say :-)

Might be worth contacting Patient Advice & Liason Service at th hospital, Jangles. That's if you feel up to it. You may get some benefit from it & it may prevent others getting the same treatment

Tbh, that wasn't really the worst experience I've had over the last 9 months.

The morning I took an overdose I panicked and called the emergency care number which linked to a mental health service in East London. The gent on the other end told me they didn't deal with patients in Milton Keynes and hung up!

My daughter popped in before work for a impromptu visit and had me hauled off to A&E in an Ambulance

That's some appalling 'help' you've had Jangles. I'm peterborough based and they've just released a new service on the 111 system where you can press option 2 for help with a 'mental health problem' I don't know if you're within Cambridgeshire borders (rubbish at geography sorry) but if so it's an option for some really tough spots if they occur before you can get back to MIND.

cpft.nhs.uk

Another thing I've just heard about is the online cbt through the nhs. In some places it's free in others you need to pay £25 it could be worth looking to see if it's free for your area.

nhs.uk

Sorry if you've already tried these options please ignore me. We are always here so feel free to download on us

Regarding PALS... yes if you feel like you can do it I would definitely complain it might not just be you receiving that 'treatment' however! if it will cause you more anxiety then don't do it look after you atm if needs be it's something you can look at later when you're in a better place.
