*takes deep breath*
I think I have a problem.
Not sure if it's anxiety/stress/depression and have avoided the docs so far.

I teach so job pressures are standard but lately (last 3-4mths if I'm honest) I've noticed the following ..
short term memory is awful.
stropping at kids when I wouldn't normally
being more grumpy than normal
feeling overwhelmed with work and not knowing where to start and therefore getting nothing down and feeling worse.
increase in emotional eating and therefore feeling worse as I'm fat
poor sleep - staying asleep. when I get woken my mind won't shut up. I was marking at 2:30 the other morning as I gave up. I've even dreamed about non existent marking!
Struggling more than ever to do anything exercise wise despite knowing it will make me feel better
tired constantly
low self esteem and lower confidence than normal.

I've just finished an 8 week mindfulness course at work - which made me feel worse.
I've been meditating for 3 mths and do yoga and knit.

I'm applying for a new job so haven't seen a doc yet as I don't want a reference to say currently off sick.

I'm thinking I may need to .... thought?

Ask union rep for advice: she or he will almost have had prior experience.

No doctor me but I could complete 80% or more of your 'checklist' based on my previous experience of depression.

If you weren't running OK, you'd seek a reason, be it physical or medical; so why avoid looking for a diagnosis when you're not functioning OK?

I guess in my head i see it as a failing - not being me not being able to do what I am supposed to be able to do.

I spoke briefly to the school counselor and she suggested counselling as she thinks part of my problem is that I am too hard on myself and that this may be linked to my mum leaving when I was 3 i.e. I never feel good enough.

I joined fat club this week to try and take control in that part of my life and cried at the leader

we don't have a union rep at school ... yet

No-one is as good as ourselves at demolishing our self esteem. Personalising the 'blame' - which is so often not of the individual's making exchanges shovel for JCB as the undermining goes critical.

You're *still* able to do what you're supposed to do - just not so well at the moment, because you are not 100%. A reason, not a fault. Your counsellor is a sound ally - counselling waiting lists seem to be v long. Take as much pressure off as you can - staying in work when it's making you worse makes little sense. Get well and the ways ahead will be clearer.

thanks

I do wonder what the impact of illness has on job applications?

Most of my stresses are due to the pressure of exam results so I am applying for a middle school so before exams. Also closer to home (3m) so I could exercise as my commute which must have a good impact on my health

On you yourself applying for a job? Based on the above, you're less likely to give an accurate account of your abilities, experience and talents.

Getting an interview while off sick raises other queries: if your union has a regional rep [Google], she/he should be able to advise.

No professional should have to work as though in a vice. Where the humanity & empathy have gone, I don't know - although I saw an account driving away from our college last week....

yeah I've applied for another job. By forcing myself to go through certificates and list what I do it did actually make me think for a minute I do know stuff and must be good!

One of the reasons why I haven't seen the doc is because I want to apply for a new job. I know others at work are worse than me. At least 2 people are off with stress. Staff who leave are not getting replaced and the kids have stupid targets which we have to get them!

Hugs evil pixie (). I hope writing out some of your fears helps release them a little. Seeing doc and being signed off sick are not the same thing - if you think it best for your health you go see your doc then do that first step and try not to let your mind leap forward several steps to where it may eventually lead.

Am guessing a break not possible before Easter because of teaching?

Did course help at all at time or did you spend whole time worrying it wasnt helping? Xxx
