If only some of this is correct, it's a massive coup by Ukraine. Multiple strikes against airfields across Russia and the claim that 40-odd bombers destroyed. And on the eve of the next round of talks in Istanbul ![]() kyivindependent.com |

Would be a boost. Along with the two bridges that magically collapsed yesterday.

Fantastic bit of planning and execution especially when you look at the locations of some of those attacks. I'm guessing the Americans weren't given prior notice ![]() |

Agree, Trump would have tried to block it or blabbed. Imagine that undertaking, smuggling the weapons many miles into enemy territory, conducting the operation and getting out, alive. Think there maybe at least one Fetchie with an idea of how that might feel. Love to see some video from within Putin's office when he found out. |

i'm constantly confused about the recurring warnings about Putin apparently threatening to attack a NATO country. Given that in 3 years he's only managed to get 20ish% of Ukraine - and with so many reports about how much equipement he's lost even before today - is attacking NATO countries REALLY a feasible option for him?

Wires are humming right now ...... lots being said (and speculated) about this incredible attack I have to admit it took all the pundits by surprise, what a coup - I agree with Mutts. You really need to look at the geography of this, it's an incredibly wide target set and a phenomenal achievement to develop weapons with the range and accuracy to do this. Just taking Olenya as an example, that's WAY in the north of the country, right up there in the Artic and is where a lot of the TU22M (not TU22 as the article stated) are based, you have to ask how the targeting was done? I can guarantee that it was NOT locally illuminated and unless the Ukrainians are well ahead of the rest of the world it won't have been IG (inertial guidance) because the technology is heavy and needs constant calibration to ensure accuracy (e.g. per Tomahawk), so not drone-friendly. This will have been GPS-guided and I wonder whether the Americans have been giving them access to the military "discrete" channels? I bet they have, it's more granular and of course completely passive. The irony, I think, is that I expect they also used the Russians' own GLONASS (their version of GPS), I mean, why wouldn't you? ![]() Lots more to this than meets the eye. The A50 MAINSTAY (a modified IL76 CANDID) is mentioned and it doesn't make sense that they went after these and the bases where they are deployed certainly isn't mentioned .... unless the upgrades to their AEW radar has made a difference to the aircraft's ability to track small, low-altitude targets (drones), apparently it's not good at picking them out from ground clutter and they really haven't been part of this war. Don't know why they wasted resources destroying one, that's certainly what the SBU are claiming. We'll have to wait for OS imagery to confirm where it was methinks. @GordonG certainly it's feasible, it all depends on how scared he gets. With his [now] limited ground forces, the danger is he goes nuclear early and that's the big gamble, how would the rest of NATO respond to a tactical nuke strike on one of their members? Badly, methinks. It could escalate very rapidly and that's the danger I hope those fuckwits in Government are chewing over this as they consider their 3% GDP commitment to the defence budget right now. |

A bit of OS imagery tasked by a bloke who have been a very good and accurate source of info during the course of the war. If you're viewing on a mobile you might have difficulty picking the airframes out, but the shape of the TU95 and TU22M3 is clearly distinguishable. Sadly, you can also make out undamaged aircraft. |
