Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Most of them are single episode things (eg the "Gone Medievel" podcast is a different subject each week) but some are longer narrative (eg. The British History Podcast, Revolutions) and they go to the top of the queue and get listened to the week they're published.

But no, none of the stuff about events 1000 years ago are particularly time sensitive, whereas Fighting Talk becomes a bit meaningless by sunday afternoon, and a recap/review of House of the Dragon has a shelf life of a week at most.

I have the odd British History Podcast binge. Still only at about the year 500 though.

Ah Homer, my sweet summer child!😉

Yep, the British History Podcast started way back with the first evidence of humans arriving in these isles and has gone week by week until 1066/7 so far. It’s fantastic.

I listened through the whole History of Rome series as they were published. Mike Duncan (Mr HoR) but hen took a break and came back with Revolutions, which covered a selection of significant revolutions through history, beginning with the English Civil War and ending in about 1920s Soviet Union. Fantastic stuff. He really is the master of the art form for me.

I hen you get to the end of HoR switch across to The History of Byzantium, which basically picks up the thread from where Mike sets it down.

And for random historical subjects the whole History Hits network is fantastic. A range of podcasts with different focuses (foci?) in one-off single episode formats:
The Ancients
Gone Medievel
Not Just the Tudors
Warfare
Patented (a history of inventions)
Betwixt the Sheets (a history of scandal)
And the main History Hit pod which can cover almost anything depending on who is available as a guest

Then there’s also Our Fake History which covers various historical “facts” and does a thorough multi-episode show about whether they’re true and why they are believed and passed in anyway.

(Greg: you know me so well!)

Oh my! That's bloody perfect!

The ToR presentation works for me as a 'pay attention' podcast and now sooo many to try :-)
