As PG says, how inconsiderate of the organisers to make the announcement when I was on a teleconference call!!!
So the possible rumours over Christmas/New Year of a fall out with MUFC were true. That said, it's really not that big of a change... the two locations are less than 0.5mile apart.
Re: course, if anything the new course will be flatter and net downhill If they want to finish right outside OT cricket ground they'll need to find about 0.2miles (plus anything it was already short by ;-)). If I was the organisers I'd add that it by dragging the start line back a little bit, or on the 2nd out n back along Wharfside Way.

Maybe they're looking to establish a regular date, ie first or second Sunday in April, and don't want to have to wait until footy fixtures come out.
Although, if MUFC were playing on the Sunday, then would they still be able to have the race, maybe not, so maybe that's not the reason........

Maybe Gus. Remember, they've already set a date for the new Manchester Half Marathon (also finishing at OT Cricket Ground) in October before knowing the 2016/17 football fixtures. Although obviously the road closures for a HM will be shorter than a marathon. That said, I'm not sure they'd ever want to clash with VLM and/or Easter, both of which change date, so I don't think they'd be able to establish a regular date.
I've just been on Facebook, and it's funny how many people are getting annoyed about such a relatively small change
As you pointed out Gus, the most important question is where will the Fetch post race meet-up be?!?

Nelly, I think the "problem" was that the official announcement gave no indication of where OT Cricket Ground is in relation to MUFC.
The first thing I did on reading the news was to go to Google maps and work out how far away it was, but lots of people just seemed to post up in a panic about already booked a hotel, etc If the announcement had said it was 5 min walk then they'd have received less aggro.

Agreed, the announcement could have been worded slightly better... but in my experience if two stadia(in the same city) are called the same thing (Old Trafford Football Ground and Old Trafford Cricket Ground) then generally they're not far away from each other.

It may be only a relatively minor change, but it does have implications, such as the course measurement that has been mentioned. Also, as Nelly says, they could have worded it better.
I haven't received an email about this yet, so I wouldn't have known about it but for this thread. When are the organisers going to inform me?
I've been telling everyone that I entered Manchester because it is so well organised. I think this has put a bit of a dent in that view.

Flatlander, I'd imagine the course measurement will be easy to address; I can't see the whole course needing re-measuring... measure distance from old finish line to where the new route forks off to the finish; measure distance from fork to new finish line; move start line back by (approx. 0.2miles) difference.
I've just checked, and I had an email at 11:24 about it (but I'll be towards the top of their email mailing list having entered every year), so I'm sure your email will be with you shortly.
Here's an image showing the likely course changes (2015 left vs 2016 right)... it's almost like a game of spot the difference:-
