Very short notice, but I've just spotted that Operation Daybreak, about the Hydrich assassination, starts on TCM Movies+1 at 2:30 this afternoon, should anyone want to record and watch it.

Have to work unfortunately... tried to get TCM playing on my computer in the background but it wouldn't cooperate...

I watched it, having seen it a long time ago. What struck me first was that filming it entirely on location in and around Soviet-era Prague, in the depths of an Eastern bloc winter, gave it a very drab and grim realism. Even though it was filmed in colour the overall effect was 'grey' - probably very true to life for wartime Prague. Maybe that's why people can't be sure of the colour of the car
One thing I'd forgotten, and according to Wikipedia is true, is that they first of all wanted to shoot Heydrich as he passed in a train on a trip back to Berlin. One of those 'What if' moments.

I'd quite like to watch a triple bill (!)
Operation Daybreak Anthropoid The Man With The Iron Heart (i.e. the one supposedly filmed from HHhH)
Though that would be a very Laurent Binet thing to do. I wonder if the truth is somewhere within a combination of all three films (and others)?

Not relevant to the book - but the other thing that struck me was the comparison between the Prague of the film and the city we visited about fifteen years ago, one February half-term. It had clearly thoroughly shaken off the poor, depressing, drab atmosphere of the Soviet era.

I visited Prague in the snow and took a trip to ceske budovice in a blizzard where there were abandoned trabants keeled over and random angles where presumably the verge was. We stayed in an apartment where the lights switched off before you could make it up the communal stairwell. It was brilliant. I was lucky to go before it was all stag does

We were just pre-stag-do era. The boys were about 12/13 and at one restaurant all four of us were served an on-the-house slivovic at the end of our meal. OH drank all four, and had to have a lie-down as soon as we got back to out hotel

The station book exchange had these two titles - any other combination of authors/titles that work better together than apart?
