Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I’ve not got time to read the link (and don’t know Plymouth, not my part of the peninsula) but as public transport is usually from radial points to centre, maybe targeting bike specific infrastructure to be in and around local suburban districts is a good way to get people to switch the journeys they'll locally make from car to bike?

That is the idea fields. The LCWIP should be a dynamic document for councils and they should have a way to collect more feedback

Also - the existing state of things:

plymouth.gov.uk

The problem is going from the station two thirds of way down below Central park, you have to go on purple roads at some point. And it describes even the easiest of them as "challenging". Lethal would be a better description sadly. I wouldn't cycle on them, I value my life.

Hey Chris - have to say at least Plymouth have started on the infrastructure and had a second consultation. Runnymede completed their consultation in October 2021 and we still have not seen anything from Surrey County Council.

Also seen you have this: plymouth.gov.uk
But feedback is now closed.....however might be able to find a cycling development officer in your council?

Quick plug for battery for your home electricity. We're getting one as part of solar installation. But even just without solar, a battery allows you to take benefit of off peak electricity prices.

Off peak on most tariffs is half or even 1/4 of the cost of peak. If you can't schedule your electricity usage to take advantage of it (e.g. timers on washing machine, dish washer and any other big electric), then you are using peak electricity. Bad for wallet, bad for environment (because the peak is often when the worst of on demand generators - gas turbines, oil fired etc. kick in).

A battery can be e.g. £4K. You can potentially make that back in less than 5 years. And if you install any micro generation in future - solar or wind or anything else, it will benefit you even more.

Give me a shout if you want more info, cos we've got quite a lot through the solar investigation. Cheers, :-) G

Yes please Happy.

We don't have off peak electricity here, but I am planning on removing my cold frames in two years time and build a small "off grid" houselet in which I want storage for the solar panels that will go on the roof of my new building. According to my friend's oh, specialised in off grid systems, that, paired with storage, should be enough to generate consistent power to take both buildings off the grid...
I will by then also have taken water and sewage off the grid...

I'm not sure why you particularly want to take water and sewage off the grid.

That seems pretty pointless to me.

The costs of that in comparison to other stuff are rather insignificant and potentially inconvenient if anything goes wrong.

I'm not sure in the vast majority of the UK it makes sense going "off grid" anyway. Much better to generate your own power as far as possible (wind, solar, battery etc), but use the grid as extra when required.

Fozzy - there are water concerns. The UK may not have enough water for everyone by 2050 with our current usage and climate change. In the South we have had warmer summers and not enough rainfall throughout the year, especially in Winter. Our reservoirs are not as full and we have leaks in our piping system.

Hi
I've seen environment (whether emissions, power, climate change, access to countryside, whatever you think of as "environment") discussed in various threads: Politics (obviously), the Electric Car thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/electric-car-anyone-61481/ , run free's excellent "Competitive Running and Keeping The Environment Clean" fetcheveryone.com/forum/running-competitively-keeping-our-environment-clean-60907/ my own Greta Thunberg thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/greta-thunberg---jfk-for-the-climate-generation-61044/ etc. but I haven't seen a general one.

So here it is. For those interested in the science, the politics, the action for (and I'll state that for me, this is mostly pro-environment, anti-emissions, anti-pollution etc.) and the hope for the future of our planet.
