Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I also enjoyed the run today. I liked this year's course much better than last year's, although didn't enjoy the blustery wind alongside the river, and felt the last few miles dragged. Know what you mean, CumbriAndy, and agree a lap of Holme P lake might have been preferable. Also not too sure about the grassy bit just after Holme P - surely a road marathon ought to be on roads, or good trails. Felt that if the weather had been very rainy, that bit would have got very muddy indeed for those of us plodding at the back.

A road marathon is entitled to have no more than 2.6km off-road. More than that and it can't have a calibration certificate. I'm guessing that the path in Colwick park was acceptably sturdy to count as road.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed it folks, lots of folks from my club struggled with the wind coming back along the river so a lap of the lake at that point would have been horrific.

I had a good run in the half, but much preferred last years route. The Park Estate is an architectural joy but you only really need to run up the hill in it once to appreciate it fully! Going up to Wollaton Hall was nice though

Mrs SOD and I had a cracking day, we didn't quite get the 'A' or 'B' however we managed to get a reasonable run despite the long drag into the wind. I was surprised just how hilly those first few miles were! That said, having never ran the course I really enjoyed the route although there was one part where five of us nearly went off course as we were following cones and there was no sign of Marshall telling us to turn right. If it hadn't been for some runner's behind shouting we'd of carried straight on!

I enjoyed the first 20miles yesterday ;-) As others have said, the drag along the river into the wind was hardwork, made even harder due to lack of support and/or people to run with (I think I ran about half a mile with nobody in sight!).

Did anybody else measure the full short? Looking at the course map on the website it looks like the route we ran missed a little loop as we entered Colwick Park (just before 15m). And I see the organisers used the same people to place the mileage markers as GMM (5 and 6 both out by 0.4mile, and 15 to 16 only 0.75mile).

Although that would also explain why the 16 mile marker came up so soon, because I've got the bit where you're suggesting the little loop should have been at 15 miles on my watch.

I measured 26.4 - which is about right for a city marathon ;)

I thought most of the markers were off too though, to be fair, if I've measured the route long then I'd expect most of those in the second half to appear 'late'
