What do you reckon the optimum way is to get the most ascent in half an hour is?
There's one of those virtual relay things at the weekend, basically log the most ascent on a run in 30 mins. So you could do short reps up a steep hill (2 mins on, 2 mins off or something), or a long drag twice, or even run up one big hill?

If you can find a climb that last 30 minutes, then you're not going to burn any time not climbing.... But the gradient is the key, obvs

Rep the steepest hill you have access too. Make sure you optimise ascent speed ie don’t run if you can walk faster, and vice versa

I'd be tempted by a set of steps, with a runnable return.

If you’re comfortable (and used to) doing them I’d definitely consider steps

Indoor steps with a good banister to slide back down on.

ooh, ooh, fire station... but then I'm assuming the elevation is measured by gps...

A single hill runnable hill, as oumaumau says then there is no wasted time or if allowed a treadmill. Set to something like 10% gradient someone who is hill fit can knock out 10+kph giving a good 500m in 30 mins (I do a winter session at 15% that takes me 64ish minutes when fit to get to 1000m but 10% is more efficient for a challenge like this). If you do reps up a hill then at the best you will only climb for 20 minutes probably limiting yourself to less than 400m max.
If it's local then Skiddaw would be a good venue off road but I reckon what you really need is a road climb like Bealach na ba on Applecross. My rule of thumb is always that if you can drive/cycle up it you can always run up it!
WS, Kinder's profile means that in general the climbs are too steep and often too rough to run really efficiently. In the Peaks Lose Hill is better but still a little too steep in places, for me that gives about 300m in 23 mins in a rep session, so perhaps the equivalent of 450m in a one off blast.

Most of the long climbs around my way are gradual hills, so I reckon that you’d pack in more ascent with a relatively short (1 mile) but quite steep hill. The trick, I reckon, is not to ease off too much on the downs.
