Thanks for starting the thread. I’ve never felt the depression thread was the place for me. I’m more affected by anxiety and stress although depression also features. I blogged last year about my anxiety which was really bad at the time. It comes and goes. At the moment I’m lacking motivation and enthusiasm for pretty much everything. Like others I know running/biking/climbing etc help but can’t find the motivation to do them.

Does anyone use the expression "low mood"? You know, just feeling down?
How down? And how often? And if very for both then what does that mean?

Good question Happy... I like to use the term "overwhelmed" rather than low mood as that more accurately describes how I feel. However, the feeling of being overwhelmed does cause low mood.

In my case, largely during the winter months. I was seriously struggling untill two days ago, when the fog quite literally lifted and the sun came out for the first time in 2 months. Back to mizzle again tomorrow, so glad I took today off. Impromptu decision. It allows me to sort out my book racks for my new building and my drying shed. Something that should have been done months ago, left me feeling chronically overwhelmed, as it needs a dry, sunny day: I need to move things between buildings AND put things temporarily outside AND run an inside hoover outside so we don't want rain! Just taking a break now, been going for hours. Feeling a lot less overwhelmed!

Hann your SAD must be so difficult as there just isn't much one can do to control the daylight hours.
I've found WFH much better for my January low moods, because although I'm still getting up in pitch black, skipping the commute means I dont get 'at desk' until daylight, whereas before I'd be leaving early to miss the rush.

Curly thank you. I try control it with the SAD alarm clock, mimicking sunrise at 7.30 am. Also, I then have breakfast by my SAD light for 45 minutes. It is amazing and poignant how much difference a few hours of sunshine makes though.

I've used the Headspace app before and can really recommend it.
I find running really helps my mental health, especially on trails away from traffic and in nature.
I've struggled quite a bit over the last couple of months, mainly due to work uncertainties and pressure. Though happily these have been resolved.
Big hugs to anyone struggling out there.

Oh and: I have invested in daylight lights in my new workshop building!!!!! And lots of large windows and doors to sit in front of to maximise winter light. Nearly finished. Next winter will be easier as I can walk across to my workshop and envelop myself in daylight even when dark and gloomy!

hp is there something gentler (to yourself or slower) you can muster the energy for? Or are you using a lot of your energy just carrying on?
(if I remember correctly you are a single parent - that must be absolutely emotionally exhausting even if all good)
