The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free.
But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient.
Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead.
Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?
I think of "Fighting In A Sack" as the big Shins song. I bought Chutes Too Narrow on the back of having downloaded that and a couple of other tunes from original pirate Napster, Funeral as well.
Wilco fall into the that category of "don't really know, maybe I should listen to" for me.
New Slang is the song I would say was the big Shins song. Must depend on when you heard them. New Slang was on lots of TV shows at the time and (if I remember correctly) played throughout the film Garden State
I've finally finished my 90s albums, all the reviews are on my blog if anyone's interested.
My 2000s selections go like this:
2000 - Modest Mouse, The Moon & Antarctica. I know nothing of this lot, except wasn't Johnny Marr involved at some point?
2001 - Tool, Lateralus. No eye deer.
2002 - Interpol, Turn on the bright lights. Still no eye deer, except I think a man from Interpol was interviewed on 6Music last week. He seemed interesting enough.
2003 - The Shins, Chutes too narrow. Still no f***ing idea, except the "Listen to an album..." thread seemed to be discussing them a bit recently.
2004 - Madvillian, Madvilliany. Well, at least I'd heard OF Modest Mouse, Interpol and The Shins. Who, or indeed What, TF is Madvillian??
2005 - Sufjan Stevens, Illinios. What kind of a name is Sufjan? Is the J silent?
2006 - Arctic Monkeys, Whatever people say I am, that's what I'm not. Well of course I've heard of the Arctic Monkeys. Can't say I'm mad keen on the shouty Sheffield showmen but let's see.
2007 - Bon Iver, For Emma, forever ago. Another name I recognise but no idea what he / it will be like.
2008 - Fleet Foxes, Fleet Foxes. It would appear I stopped listening to new bands somewhere in the late 90s.
2009 - Animal Collective, Merriweather post pavilion. Again, I've heard of them but no clue what they're about.
With the exception of Arctic Monkeys, that's a decade's worth of truly unfamiliar stuff. I'll continue to blog each one but it may take some time...
