Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

75% LSR pace run for me 11 miles @ 7:41 min/mile with a 3kg rucsack to work. It was great!
Doubling up tomorrow, 22miles in total - running back from work in the morning, and back again in the evening. This will be an 85 mile week, my longest ever! :)

Run back from work after a draining Night Shift at LSR pace/HR. Legs felt tired, some transient shin discomfort, and no 'bounce'..... but a great run for the HR!<br>

Nice run Hendo. 66% at that pace is a good sign.

I have 12 to do at less than 70% in about an hour and that'll be 71 for the week - my biggest total ever. I keep telling myself that it is making a difference but the proof of the pudding is in 2 weeks' time.

A great hilly 9.5 miler all on road. Avg HR 149bpm 69% @10.10mm, which sadly doesn't reflect what a great pacey run it was. The hills had me in the high 10mm to keep HRM happy , but on the flat sections which only ever last 0.5 mile at most I was doing 9.15mm at 147bpm.
I am getting better at pushing more on the downhills when I remember. Sometimes I just like the comfort of the slower pace...:-) :-)

Sowwy I feel a bit norty because I did the Belper 30K without my HRM on, am I in twubble? :-)

Nice to meet velociraptor and lots of other Fetchies.

Cavey, Hellen, RunnyEyes, Velociraptor, Jen (from Kent, not sure if she's a Fetchie though), PaulE * I think that's what he said*, Clairster.

Despite saying I would do this as an LSR due to the terrain I doubt if I would have been much quicker if I had raced. Managed a time of 3:03 and it was hard. I walked a lot of the hills to keep my HR down a bit.
Knee aching a bit now too but hey ho, I enjoyed it! :-)

good to meet you Ian
wow, that was tough, (belper 30km) lots of hills, lots of mud, got stuck in it at one point. The prob with the course was that the downhills were so steep or muddy that I was not able to pick my speed up on them. Did lots of walking on the hills to keep HR down (actually because it was hard and I am lazy!!). Av HR was 72% so happy with that, wont mension the pace though!!!!

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
