Non Hadd training today, but I do prefer a 5k as a progress indicator over the Hadd test, and that's saying something. I hate 5ks.
Finished 19:23 at Kirkcaldy parkun. Not bad for a starting point, roughly same as I was 2 weeks ago before op and forced break. Finished 4th as well which is my highest ever position despite previously running a few at sub 18 way back when, lol.
Think I'll go back in 6 weeks. for another crack. I've a fair idea from my training stats what sort of shape I'm in at any given time but I don't think it'll hurt the whole Hadd process to do some faster than MP stuff once in a while. And help my competitive streak. My main motivation to go this week was seeing last week's winning time was 19:15.

Lays a marker down Davie - well done
Interested in how you worked this into the week, did you still have 2 x sub LTs and an LSR or did you drop one of the Sub LTs
I was planning to resist the Parkrun itch as I thought it was 'frowned upon'.
Keen to know the others views, can I slot in a parkrun every now and again without compromising the trainin ?

Nice running Baz. Similar here. Didn't get the chance to go out until very late afternoon but glad I stuck to the plan. Last week I would have probably ended up doing 4 miles on the treadmill or nothing at all so committing to a 2nd Sub LT run on the thread certainly got me out. Stats are consistent with Tuesday and managed to hold a fairly steady pace with no drift
Split Summary === 1) 1m - 7:09(7:09/m) 139/148bpm 90cal 2) 1m - 7:11(7:11/m) 145/150bpm 99cal
3) 1m - 7:13(7:13/m) 146/151bpm 97cal
4) 1m - 7:13(7:13/m) 147/153bpm 95cal
5) 1m - 7:08(7:08/m) 149/155bpm 92cal
6) 1m - 7:09(7:09/m) 148/153bpm 89cal
7) 1m - 7:06(7:06/m) 150/154bpm 89cal
8) 1m - 7:15(7:15/m) 150/154bpm 87cal
9) 1m - 7:11(7:11/m) 150/154bpm 83cal
10) 1m - 7:13(7:13/m) 150/153bpm 79cal
Nice park run there as well Davie. I'd be happy with low 19.xx just now as well

Hi. Thought I would finally post to say thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. After 2 1/2 years of injury I found this thread in July and after reading it all ( took a while) used what I learned to run an injury free marathon in Dublin yesterday in 3'05. Never really ran above 80% throughout my training and yesterday's race and probably had my most enjoyable marathon to date. Thanks again everyone !!!!

Baz - as I hadn't really trained last week I felt like a 5k didn't compromise things at all. Purely an indicator of where I am just now as I don't have a bank catalogue of recent training stats to guide me. In terms of how it can fit in I think the hadd test is also generally frowned upon. There's no need for it really, but you can for it in every 6 weeks and if I remember correctly he said that was partly to allow runners to go out hard once in a while. I don't see any reason why a 5k can't do the same job. I'm thinking once every 6 weeks max.
Ran a 3.5 mile trail race on Sunday as well, there's no way to shoehorn that into hadd. I just did it for fun. Came 4th overall and first M40 My first non parkrun race as a vet so it was nice to pick up a wee prize.
This morning was hadd proper. 8 miles on the coastal path. Sub 70% although a few of the sheep climbs pushed me over in not too bothered at this point. 8:41/mile and bang on 70% MHR average.

Aye those sheep climbs are a baaaastard for sub 70's Davie ;-)....Sorry, coat already on
Well done Doonhamer. Sounds like you had a great race. So did you not move those 80% runs closer to 85% as you got closer to the marathon? Great when you can enjoy a marathon. I've not had many of those
Got out for 15 @ sub 75% of Max average yesterday but was probably closer to 78% for the majority of the run. Not a real problem just now. Just happy to have completed a 50 mile week with 3 good runs in there. Its been a while!

Hi tizer. Good effort at getting back to 50 miles per week.
On the whole I kept them to 80% until the last 6 weeks or so when rather than pure Hadd I adapted the Daniels Q2 plan in that when he had x miles at MP I would do the same at 80% so not running for an hour at 80% it was more two blocks or 40 mins or so separated by an easy mile or so.
I've just entered Manchester so will continue with hadd until at least the new year when I should be ready to look at a specific marathon plan.

Have any of you guys done the test suggested at the start? I annoyingly never did it, just couldn't get organised enough, but it does feel like I have really benefited from this approach.
