I know - that is really weird. Good point though... it's only 3 weeks old but who knows how long the batter has been sitting in the HRM. I'll swap it for a new one tonight and see what happens.

emdee, is the strap exactly the same as the one from your 405? Can you try using the 405 strap with your 310? This new soft strap seems to be trouble for a lot of people (me, I use the strap I got with my 305 and have had no problems with that). Some people have had good results from replacing the strap (only the strap, not the transmitter) with a Polar one which fits: dcrainmaker.com |

I'm using the one that came with the 310XT.. The one from the 405 has gone to it's new owner, with the 405. Great article though and it sounds like it's worth looking into the Polar strap as that appears to be the problem.

oh and btw, I got muddled - my old one was a 305, not 405, so the strap/HRM from that isn't compatible with the 310. Not that I have it any more.. ![]() |

Worth a shot I reckon, yes. Otherwise buy a 305-style strap - they definitely are compatible with the 310 & the 405, it's only the 301 strap which isn't compatible (everything after that uses ANT+). buy.garmin.com |

aah ok Badger.. my 305 was from before the term Ant+ whatever was coined by Garmin, so I assumed it was some new technology.

my 305 was bought in 2006 and the HRM is compatible with my 310 so if you bought yours around that time or after then i would expect it to be compatible. TBH I sometimes think mine counts low on HR - it hasn't gone about 160 in ages according to my garmin. maybe I need to work harder...... just occasionally ![]() ![]() my 310 seems to count low on calories as well, but then again I don't eat based on what it tells me, I eat based on how hungry I am..... but someone else's garmin told them they had used more than twice as many calories as I had on the same run and there's no way he weighs twice what I do! |

You're just too fit, Stumpy, that's your problem, clearly ![]() I never pay any attention to the calorie numbers, they just look too random. The 305 can receive ANT+ from hrm and footpod, but nothing else, and can't transmit at all, so Garmin made much less fuss about it than about the newer models which are much more versatile - from their point of view back then I guess it was just the technology they picked for the hrm, rather than magic superinteroperable pixie dust technology. |

LOL, Badger. if only I were. no, srsly, my perceived effort has been higher than that on some runs, so I would expect it to go above 160 sometimes (although most of my runs would definitely be classed as laid back and just gentle).
