Wouldn't it be great just to return to the golden days of the European Cup? Winners of each domestic league playing in a pure two-legged knock-out competition. Same for winners of the FA cup.

If money wasn't an issue, we'd all go back to the straight knockout format. Why play six matches to lose half the teams when you can play two?

TV wont pay for a straight knockout, there aren’t enough guaranteed ‘big’ games.

I am not even averse to a league, but just with the one team from each country, but again, that just doesnt throw up enough big games.

Thing is, I don't think most of them are big games. They're almost filler because there's very little jeopardy until the last few rounds.

All this tinkering with the Champs League, Euros, World Cup. There is a lovely symmetry with 32-16-8-4-2. Leave them all well alone.

Anyway, good 3-3 draw for Chelmsford City Women away at Southend yesterday.

They have almost an almost identical chance of European football as Spurs at this point.

No Paul, but they are engineered in a way that means there will be lots of big games in the latter stages. A straight knockout (which I would love to see) doesnt throw up a minimum of 6 Real Madrid games.
