Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Thanks to WW for chipping in with Meccano - anyone else got model rail, boat, train, car or other model building to chat about (e.g. I used to do a thing called Linka when I was a kid. It was ace. Clay/plaster in plastic mould making brick "sections" that you could then link and glue together to make whole buildings. Brilliant).

Didn't update you about my buggy racing on Sunday. It was good fun. I wasn't last. I was 6th last! 29th out of 35 of the 2 wheel drives. There were 50 plus cars and drivers out, including the 4WD. Really good numbers. Great track. I was OK in heats 1 and 2, then rubbish in 3 and OK in 4 and ok in final (started 5th of 8 in my final, and finished same but making up places, having started badly. Just like running!)

Shout if you want to know more. Probably be going to the GT12 locally again on Sunday night. There is buggy racing Fri and even Mon nights in a permanent built track in Ayrshire, but it's over 2 hours away, nearly 100 miles. Bit much? :-) G

Oh, having googled it I've just discovered that Linka went bust in 1993? linkaonline.co.uk :-(

But... ingenious folks have resurrected the basic plastic moulds and recreated DIY designs for different buildings. Wow! They look so good. I must have a go at one again. :-) G

It was GT12 again last night. Great fun. Good vibe at the club everyone enjoying themselves, young and old. Had a good battle with the other newish guy. And still beaten by the 11 year old, but he enjoyed racing us.

Changed wheels n tyres, no idea if it changed anything! Some brilliant new shells that people are coming out with.

I need to get in touch with my inner modeller and a. strip the cars down, clean them and make sure I know what I'm doing and b. paint up some new body shells, just for fun! :-) G

The Meccano Zone.Com group has a Christmas build competition every year. This years challenge is to build a free style build using the 1970's Pocket Meccano set. It has limited parts hence the challenge. I managed to source an old 1970's set off eBay.

This is my entry but some of the real good builders have come up with some brilliant, ingenious builds. I lack the creativity.

I won't win but was good to using Meccano from the 1970's and experience how Meccano has progressed or not.

Tricky little build this one from a 1970 Pocket Meccano Set French Set. Yes, I'm still fiddling about with that set. The diagram in the instructions are vague at best and several additional components needed to be added such as locking nuts. It needs some improvements.

Is it a working set of scales Wobbs? Well done.

I haven't driven a car since back in Oct/Nov. Didn't really enjoy the off road cards indoor. And the road cars (GT12 scale) weren't as much fun. And it was Sun night or Fri night, so not such a good time.

Main thing though was that I got into Boston marathon so actually started running training again, so I've had less time! Might get back to it after April when the off road cars start running outdoors again. And my marathon will be done! :-) G

It's described as a letter balance HG.

Letters were popular in the 1970's.

Off road car driving season restarts this weekend (or does up here in Scotland - UK national races started down south last week, I think). So expect some more daft car pics and stories in here to restart again from May.

I'm off to Boston marathon and then holiday in states for 2 weeks, so I'll miss the first couple of rounds of racing. But I'll be back to it after that.

This year I'd like to commit to actually do a bit of car fiddling with the engineering side of it. That's supposed to be half the fun! :-) G

I can't believe that we've got Crafts, Gardening, Computer Games, but not model cars, trains...!

Just don't call them toys!

My particular hobby was 1/10th scale radio controlled car racing. I'm now looking to get into radio controlled planes. We have some Airfix model builders in here and Lego builders too. Any type of model vehicles really! Planes, trains, automobiles... boats, helicopters, anything! Come join in! :-) G
