Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Brilliant, dead chuffed for you Derby, they are amazing birds.

Cheers jacdaw, definitely not teal then, I have definitively seen teal on the Clwyd by that description as they were noticeably smaller. Going back to my original thinking of wigeon, just wish I could find one photo that says to me, yup, that is the one, rather than me thinking 90% that is the one. I am enjoying finding out though :D

GSW drumming away in the mist, Song Thrush practicing counting to three, Snowdrops peeking out - must be time for winter to arrive.

Heavy snow must be just round the corner. I am seeing birds in pairs everywhere. They'll be huddling up to keep warm soon ;-)

I saw a ring-necked parakeet on my run on Sunday. I know you get quite a few in England but I've never seen one before. My mother was then telling me how she saw two green birds in her garden and they almost looked like parrots. I reckon they were the ones I saw.

I've also seen a pair of mandarin ducks a couple of times recently and on Saturday what looked like a brown heron which I later found out was a Eurasian Bittern. It's been a good week my way for bird watching.

The River Roding in Loughton, Essex. I read that they're one of the most threatened bird species in Britain so I must have been lucky to see one.

I often see a lot of herons around there and there is a resident egret in the stream and fields at the bottom of my road.

They tend to skulk in reedbeds, so a lot of the time they can be seen and not heard.
