Just finished our count:
Great tit - 2 Coal tit - 4 Blue tit - 7 Long tailed tit - 8 Blackbird - 4 Robin - 2 Wren - 1 Dunnock - 3 House Sparrow - 7 Chaffinch - 22 Greenfinch - 11 Brambling - 1 Goldfinch - 1 Siskin - 1 Lesser Redpoll - 2 Nuthatch - 1 Treecreeper - 1 Pheasant - 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker - 1 Wood pigeon - 3
The gusty weather meant they weren't hanging about, so my finch and sparrow counts are probably on the low side. Redpolls were a surprise.

I saw my first ever LTTs this morning in my birdwatch hour! Plus: Rook Pheasant Robin Dunnock Coal tit Wood pigeon Goldfinches Chaffinches Blue tits Great tits House sparrows.
I was standing so still that the house sparrows were right next to me.
I then went for a walk to the distillery pool where I saw the resident flock of wigeon and a large heron.

A red kite just soared low over the garden, causing the little birdies to flee in panic. Best sighting of one I've ever had from the house.
I'm pleased to say we're seeing more greenfinches on the feeders these days than I've seen in years. I hope that's an indication that the population is bouncing back after that disease they had.

I saw 2 greenfinches together on the garden wall last week, which is heartening.
Going back to Ronnie’s comment about grey wagtails. I was v close to one last week and it was sooooo yellow.
Skeins of geese flying over yesterday and today after a short absence. Too far away to see what type.

If you're wondering if it was a grey or yellow wagtail, it was a grey. Yellows are yellow like a tennis ball is.
Lone Pinkie on the canal about 100 yds from the house this morning. Unusual to see one on the ground and within touching distance. Makes you realise how small they are.
Hopefully it's OK and will be back on its way again soon.

Yellow wagtails are summer visitors too and highly unlikely to be around this early in the year
